What is OPML?

On some pages of our site you will see references to OPML. Here’s what that means.

OPML is a standardized way to share lists of RSS feeds among friends and among different programs that read RSS/OPML files. Those lists are not “flat”, meaning they are lists arranged into folders. You can have folders within folders within folders, and on and on, similar to the way the hard drive of your computer is organized.

You can subscribe to an OPML file like you can subscribe to a RSS feed. When someone updates that OPML file, you will see that update immediately. That’s right — when any of the RSS feeds within that OPML file are updated, or if a folder is added, or any other change is made, you will see that update immediately. The changes are made remotely by whomever controls that OPML file, so you don’t have to change anything.
